**NOTE: This was written by me about 6 months ago and most of it is still valid but it needs a bit of editing & some small changes that I'll do soon, but I wanted to get it out there so TF members can have a look.
So, I’ll preface this whole, long-winded article with the caveat that it is IN MY HUMBLE OPINION (which may change pretty frequently).
We must first talk about the metagame because it will/may change the way you approach the game.
This game is about 2 things:
1) Victory Points
2) Attacking (NOT defending!)
1) Victory Points: This is what will determine your enemies: player bases & NPC bases (non-player character). Victory Points and ONLY Victory Points determine your enemy’s level.
You want to keep your enemy levels as low as possible because higher level enemies have NO MORE LOOT. In fact, I think they usually have less loot. A good ‘sweet spot’ for enemy levels, when your level is 42-47, is about 370 -440 Victory Points. Your own Base level (ie Im level 46) means nothing except relative strength.
TIP -ENGINEER your Victory Points to suit your attacking ability. Enemies too strong – lower you VP! You lower your VP a couple of ways:
1 Put your HQ by the beach to let players raid you –you’ll lose 1 VP for each player that attacks you.
2 Try and attack NPC bases more often than player bases! NPC bases give you 1 VP when you conquer them, BUT player bases give you 2 VP (but you only lose 1 VP when they conquer you!) You don’t want your VP to increase above your sweet spot (maybe somewhere around 370-440 VP, depending on your level). I find, at lvl 46, about 425 points suits me well, because most people there do not yet have HQ 17.
HQ 17 is an important point because it’s where your enemies, that you are raiding, get an extra boom cannon & the Shock Launcher. You really want to try and attack level 16 and under enemies, because they lose the BC and SL (Boom Cannon & Shock Launcher).
So now you know to always watch your VP and make sure it doesn’t get too high. That means you’ll have to let your HQ sit outside, on the beach, a lot! Make sure you don’t leave much loot sitting in your base when you logout, but we’ll talk about that a little more, later.
ATTACKING: OK, this game is NOT about defending: no matter what you do, someone will successfully raid you. Stop thinking about base defence and focus on offence! This means NO SAVING LOOT between plays. What we’ll try and focus on, instead, is doing a ton of raids at once (while you’re online), as well as ways to get more loot while you are online.
LOOT: Here’s how to get loot:
DON’T SAVE LOOT on your base BETWEEN PLAYS (you KNOW you’ll get raided!)
Get a Masterpiece (MP) Resource Reward Statue! Boost it when you do multiple attacks!
Save all you loot in boats –Don’t empty your boats until you use them to buy something! Your boat loot can’t be raided. Your boats will hold their loot until the same type of boat arrives ie the Daily Rewards boat has to be emptied at 655 PM EST because the next one comes at 7 PM EST (you’ll lose the loot in the first boat otherwise). You can get 2 Boats for your ‘Raid Day’ if you take one at 6:55 and one at 7 pm
Do a ton of easy NPC bases at once: plan this ahead of time. Keep your easy NPC bases for your Raid Days (days you’ll make a big build, hence need lots of loot). Keep your wealthiest Player Bases for Raid Days too (that you know you can beat relatively easily). Do the hard NPC bases on your off nights (when you know you’ll lose a lot of troops attacking them).
RAID DAYS (days when you need big loot for a big build)
These have to be planned ahead of time:
You should have a Submarine with good loot waiting in dock with your loot on board. (This boat will stay for days, indefinitely!)
You should have saved all of your easy to conquer NPC bases for the past 2 days, at least.
You should have saved your entire wealthy but easy to conquer enemy Player Bases for this day, also.
You should have an Operation Loot Boat sailing in.
You should DO THIS ON TERROR DAYS!!!!! **** This is key, because Terror bases provide a lot of loot without your VP rising, and you’ll have your Resource Reward Masterpiece (RR MP) already boosted for both Terror Bases and the NPC/Player bases you do right afterwards. (the Power Powder boost for this lasts 3 hours).
That’s it, Sub, Op Boat, Terror loot, Daily Reward Boat, and most importantly, NPC bases! All this, with a boosted RR MP! (when you go all out like this, may want to boost GBE (Gunboat energy, and a red statue also).
One More thing about your raid days: TANKS! (Tanks & Medics =Tmeds, really)
Again, IMHO: Ya gotta use tanks! Why? Because it’s the only troop that can survive unscathed if played right. Learn to use them and you can take down any NPC base and most player bases with minimal losses. That way, you don’t have down time. You can’t logout during your Raid Day!!! You’ll lose all of your loot in an enemy raid. If you use other troops, there’s always some losses and you’ll have to use diamonds to rebuild. PS –you pretty much *have to* have a few hundred diamonds kicking around. You’ll use them to rebuild troops on raid days, and to ‘top up’ your big build that you’re making, if you’re just a little shy of the required loot, and you just finished off all of the NPC/Player bases.
Statutes you MUST have
Resource Reward : this whole strategy hinges on that bonus
Gun Boat Energy: makes tanks unstoppable (and therefore, they rarely get damaged)
Both Red Statues
Statues you should dump:
Keep max one blue statue, dump the other (I keep the Hit Point bonus so my Resource Bases are harder to steal)
DUMP ALL GREEN STATUES –with the exception of maybe a Gold MP (gold is so useful for upgrading your troops, and we’re all about offence now!)
SO: SAVE YOUR PURPLE GEMS for: Resource Rewards, GBE (Gunboat Energy), and I also keep a PSC (Powerstone chance) MP.
My staues (as of Aug 2015) are as follows:
1 Res Reward MP
2 Res Reward Guardian
3 Res Reward Guardian
4 Powerstone Chance MP (you need this to get more and better purple statues, as well as red/blue)
5 Powerstone Chance Guardian
6 GBE MP
7 GBE Guardian
8 BLUE Bldg Health MP
9 RED Trp Dam MP
10 RED Trp Hlth MP
I'll post more about my rationale for the statue mix at a later date, but why the blue BH and not blue bldg damage? Well, Building health also helps save Resource Bases a lot (you bump up their levels by about 3-4 levels), but, more importantly, your enemies will expend a lot more precious GBE to take out your best weapons. The more GBE they waste on a weapon, the less they have of that precious commodity for stunning, smoking, flaring, and more artillery!
